“Baby Brother” arrives tomorrow!

We are all excited. Tomorrow, my baby, Torie delivers her second baby–at this point we all know him as Baby Brother. This will be grandchild number four for Jan and I and you would think we would be use to it by now. But no, we are as excited as if this was our very first.

When Andrew, grandson number 1, was born I had great tickets to the Braves Game. Missed the game and drove to Tennessee and had the privilege of driving my daughter, Heather, to the hospital in a driving rain storm. Daniel was in Afghanistan and we felt the need to be there. Long night and then Andrew arrived. He has become my number 1 baseball hero.

When William, grandson number 2, was born Daniel was no longer in Afghanistan. Although there was not a need to drive at break neck speed to get there…..I still did! I was so excited to see him. William has a sense of humor like no one else in the family. He is athletic and I have no doubt will someday play football for the Clemson Tigers……or maybe the Carolina Gamecocks.

When Elsie, granddaughter number 1, was born it was a long, long, long night in the waiting room. In the early Sunday morning hour I held my first granddaughter and had my first Daddy Steve/Elsie talk. There is no doubt she is the princess in the family, and EVERYONE knows it. Last night she was visiting at our house. When it came time to leave I received the longest, snuggliest, loving hug–I still feel warm all over.

Thank God for grandchildren.

Tomorrow, when Baby Brother (I hope he is not stuck with that name forever) is born, it will be unique and different than all the rest. It is has already been impacted by the fact we are in the midst of a pandemic. We will know when he arrives but will not be able to see or hold him until he gets home. I do not know what the future holds for him, but I do know this–He will be loved with all of the love that we are capable of giving.

In the midst of the storm—Life goes on.

This is my story…
