We had just moved into our third church field. Jan and I were getting use to our new surroundings, our new home, and our new church. The girls were making adjustments to new schools.

Heather, our oldest daughters, had an extra ticket to an Alanis Morissette concert. Still making new friends, she decided to ask a girl she had met at her new school. Her name was Paisley. Her parents decided to take a chance on the new pastor’s family and allowed her to go with Heather and Jan. Thus began one of the most wonderful journeys we have had in life.

I had the privilege of talking Paisley to her first mission project, fed her oreos, and watched her discover her faith. We went on countless mission trips and I was so proud when she was chosen to serve on staff. I even take part credit for introducing her to her husband.

I have had the privilege of being a part of her life from her baptism, her wedding, her mother’s funeral, and the list just goes on. I do not hesitate to call her one of my daughters.

I am so glad that God gives us life and in that life we get to meet people like Paisley. Today is her birthday and I have been looking over some old photos–they still fill me with joy and cause great laughter!! I am convinced that God brings Paisley’s into our life to brighten the dark halls we sometimes have to pass through.

Happy Birthday Paisley and love you more than you will ever know.

This is my story…
