Wow it is cold outside!
Not too many days ago I was saying “Wow it is hot outside!” Of course, we have all heard the statement, “If you do not like the weather in Georgia, just wait five minutes and it will change.” I am looking out my window at leaves falling like rain…thankfully, not like snow! It seems as if we moved, in a matter of a few hours, from record hot to record cold. Although I like both the hot and the cold weather, I am a little more comfortable with a gradual transition. I like Spring and Fall…they prepare me gradually for the extremes of hot and cold.
I just took a sip of my coffee, and yuck, it is cold. When I first poured the cup, it was too hot to drink, now, it is too cold to drink. This morning I turned on my shower to “let it warm up.” It takes a few minutes for the water line to move the cold water out so the hot water can flow. When I jumped into the shower it was too hot. Had to adjust it to a more comfortable temperature.
Very few of us like too hot or too cold. Somewhere in between we live in comfort. My thoughts should not be confused with the statement in Revelation about “lukewarmness.” Most of us live our lives somewhere between the extremes. We often see those who live their lives to extreme as radical or outside the norm. Some prefer it to be a little warmer and some like it to be a little cooler. All of us like to be comfortable.
This is why it is so difficult to set the thermostat at the church!
